After many years of sharing my DIY Horse Stuff on the blog, I wanted to create this round up post of my favorites, and give you all an easy place to get started.
I first began with do-it-yourself horse care out of sheer necessity. My limited budget just didn’t allow for expensive store bought products!
And then I began to realize…

Did my horses care if their coat conditioner is store bought? Is it really any better? The conclusion I came to is ABSOLUTELY not!
After a few years of trial and error, Iโve put together this collection of great recipes and projects that can replace most of the products on the tack store shelf at a fraction of the price.

DIY Horse Recipes
Easy horse care recipes you can make at home!
This leave-in spray adds moisture and shine, without any stickiness.
Ingredients include:
Fractionated Coconut Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Witch Hazel, Essential Oils (optional), Distilled Water.
Help to improve the health of your horseโs scalp and strengthen the existing hair. Ingredients Include:
Castor Oil, Oil(s) of your choice*, Essential Oils (optional)
*I use a mix of castor/jojoba/neem oil. See the blog post for more options.
This recipe uses my favorite coconut based Castile Soap for a deep clean.
Ingredients include:
Dr. Bronners Liquid Soap, Jojoba Oil, Fractionated Coconut Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Witch Hazel and Essential Oils (optional)
Perfect for the shows or travelling, these wipes are convenient and easy to make.
Ingredients include:
Cloth, Distilled Water, Witch Hazel, Fractionated Coconut Oil and Essential Oils (optional)
If youโre in a pinch, this can be made from ingredients you probably already have at home.
Ingredients include:
Hair Conditioner, Baby Oil, White Vinegar, Water
This homemade, DIY natural fly spray recipe uses essential oils to deter flies, mosquitoes and other insects. It's great for riders too!
